520 a| Salon owner and hairdresser Charlene Jordan was born on July 2, 1924 in Nashville, Arkansas. Jordan left segregated Arkansas to work in President Franklin D. Roosevelt's National Youth Administration. Recruited by Boeing Aircraft Company in Seattle, she served as a "tank scaler" in Vancouver, British Columbia. Upon returning to Arkansas in 1948, Jordan attended the Velvatex College of Cosmetology in Little Rock. She moved to Denver, Colorado She took a refresher course at Duncan School of Beauty before opening her own shop, Charlene's House of Beauty. It was one of the oldest African American-owned businesses in Denver's Five Points district. Jordan served a wide range of clientele, including entertainers and celebrities and the rich and poor. She joined the Colorado Hair Dressers and Cosmetologists Association and the Success Club of America. She was also a member of the Incomparable 75. She purchased storefronts on Welton Street, now better known as "Jordan's Corner.".;
