He graduated with a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Howard University in 1958. In 1966, Jensen became the first African American to earn an M.S. degree from the United States Air Force School of Technology. In 1970, Jensen earned his Ph.D. degree in aerospace engineering from Purdue University. Jensen received the Missile Combat Crew Award and the Air Force Commendation Medal for service during the Cuban Missile Crisis. From 1967, Jensen taught at Air Force School of Technology. He retired as lieutenant colonel in 1978 and joined Ford Motor Company as an aerodynamics engineer. In 1987, Jensen became director of minority supplier development. In 2004, 309 diverse minority suppliers earned $3.7 billion of the $90 billion in Ford supply contracts as a result of his efforts.;
