Abstract |
Social worker June Martin Perry was born on June 10, 1947, and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. Perry attended graduate school at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and received her M.S. degree in social work in 1971. Perry and fellow social worker Geri McFadden co-founded New Concept Development Center, Inc. in 1975 to address the lack of local social services, specifically for African Americans. New Concept Development Center, a non-profit social services agency, targeted the African American population, with services including family counseling, housing and employment assistance and case management for HIV patients. What began as a two-woman operation grew into a 50-employee business serving more than 7,000 families a year with an operating budget of $2.5 million. After retiring from New Concept Development Center in 2006, Perry created Access 2 Success, an organization for technical assistance between business, government, and non-profits to expand their capacity for non-profit sustainability and strategic planning. |
