He earned his B.A. degree and his M.B.A. degree in finance from the University of Denver. While still in high school, Robinson worked as a communication technician, commencing a thirty-five-year career with AT&T. He served in several capacities at AT&T and relocated thirteen times to take new positions in marketing, sales and regulatory affairs. He ultimately settled in Atlanta, where he became president of AT&T's southern region. After retiring from AT&T in 2003, Robinson became president of Atlanta's East Lake Golf Club and vice chairman of the East Lake Community Foundation. He helped revive the historic golf course and the inner-city neighborhood surrounding it. Robinson served as an officer in several companies and organizations. Robinson and his wife, Arlane, lived in Marrieta, Georgia.;
