| Abstract | Corporate executive and government appointee Dennis Hightower was born on October 28, 1941 in Washington, D.C. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1957 and attended Howard University where he earned his B.S. degree in 1962. After graduating, Hightower enlisted in the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Purple Heart and a Vietnam honor medal first class. After the war, Hightower was hired by the Xerox Company and worked there until 1972 as manager of organizational planning. After graduating with his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, Hightower worked for McKinsey & Company, General Electric and Russell Reynolds Association...He served as president of Walt Disney Television and Communications in 1995. In 1996, Hightower joined the faculty of Harvard Business School. On August 11, 2009, Hightower was appointed by President Barrack Obama as Deputy Secretary of Commerce until his retirement on August 27, 2010. |
