520 a| Nurse Azira Gonzalez Hill was born on October 28, 1923 in Holguin, Cuba. Hill was affectionately referred to as "Atlanta's Angel" because of her work in civil rights and nursing. Hill received a registered nurse designation from the State Board of Georgia, and with husband, Jesse Hill, became a prominent civil rights figure. Her record of service was well known in Atlanta. She worked for Grady High School, Price High School, and Ralph Bunche Middle School with over twenty years of service as a public school nurse. Hill was an active member of Big Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, the Azalea Links, Inc., and the Inquirer's Literary Club. She also received awards from the Association of the National Negro Musicians, the Martin Luther King Federal Commission, the Golden Rule, the Ralph Bunche Middle School, the School Nurses Association and Mercy Care Award for Service. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra named a scholarship fund in her honor.;
