Abstract Community activist James L. Jackson was born on April 18, 1926. He was educated in Fulton County, Georgia's public school system. He received his certification as a lay parish associate from the United Methodist Church and was a member of the Mallalieu Methodist Church for seventy years. He worked for the federal government for twenty-seven years before retiring with his combined three years of service in the Armed Forces. He served on the East Point Housing Review Board, the East Point Community Relations Commission, and the Department of Political and Human Rights. He was also active with the South Fulton Boosters of East Point and the Thornhill Scholarship Board. In East Point, Georgia American Legion Post 51 honored Jackson with the title of "Mr. East Point". East Point Mayor Patsy Joe Hilliard named the "James L. Jackson Pedestrian Community Foot Bridge" in honor of him in 2001.
