She took her oath of office as probate judge in Hancock County, Georgia becoming the state's first black woman judge in 1969. She served on the bench for thirty-six years presiding over the probate affairs of Hancock County which is over seventy percent black and had a history of electing only white officials to office. Ingram graduated from Fort Valley College with a B.S. degree in elementary education and taught school in Griffin and Hancock County before taking office. She was appointed to serve as a member of the State Democratic Executive Committee by President Jimmy Carter (then Governor of Georgia) and Lieutenant Colonel Ade De Camp. She was also appointed by the then Governor Joe Frank Harris. Ingram retired from the bench in 2004. She remained active in the Sparta community.;
