Abstract Nonprofit CEO, Phillip Jackson was born on September 22, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from DuSable High School, Jackson attended Roosevelt University where he earned his B.S. degree in philosophy in 1974. From there, Jackson attended National Louis University earning his certificate in education. Following his graduation, Jackson went to work for Chicago publishers Kroch's and Brentano's, where he remained until 1997. Jackson also began his involvement in the community during this time, serving as chief of education for the Chicago Public Schools and as CEO of the Chicago Housing Authority. Jackson founded the Black Star Project, designed to help children and students achieve their educational potential and to increase parental involvement. Jackson received numerous awards, including the 2003-2004 Illinois Fatherhood Initiative's Father of the Year. In 2008, he ran for State Representative of the 26th District of Illinois, but was defeated.
