| Abstract |
Educational psychology professor Asa Hilliard III was born in Galveston, Texas on August 22, 1933. After earning his Ed.D. degree at the University of Denver in 1963, Hilliard began teaching at San Francisco State University where he would remain for eighteen years. While there, he rose to the position of dean of education and served as an advisor to the Peace Corps. In 1980, Hilliard joined the faculty at Georgia State University where he remained for the rest of his life. A writer of scholarly articles, Hilliard was co-creator of an educational children's series, Free Your Mind, Return to the Source: African Origins. He served as an expert witness in federal court cases regarding test validity and received numerous awards. Hilliard was active with a number of professional organizations, including serving on the board of ethnic and minority affairs of the American Psychological Association. Hilliard passed away on August 12, 2007 at age 73. |
