After graduation from West Philadelphia High School, she went to work as a bookkeeper on an Oakland, California naval base. Following War II, she became one of the first African American women to work as a switchboard operator in Berkeley, California. She worked as an accountant for the city's largest co-op. After marrying Arthur Fletcher in 1964, she became Berkley High School's office manager. Moving with her husband to Washington, D.C., she managed the campaign of his 1968 bid for lieutenant governor. After a narrow defeat, she became office manager for his consulting firm. In 1980, First Lady Nancy Reagan named Hassan-Fletcher her office manager, making her the first African American woman to hold the post. At the end of Reagan's administration, Hassan-Fletcher returned to her husband's consulting firm. She passed away on October 15, 2015 at age 92.;
