Abstract "This book is about how India and its armed forces-the army, the navy, and the air force-have coped with the changing contours of modern conflict in the decades since 1972. During this period, India's democracy has flourished, surmounting many challenges even as multiple geopolitical fractures have plagued the world. Arjun Subramaniam offers a changing perspective of how India has approached the conduct of war and conflict in contemporary times. These include the 2016 cross-border strikes across the LoC (Line of Control) with Pakistan by the Indian Army's Special Forces, the face-off with the Chinese at Doklam in 2017, the preemptive punitive strikes by the Indian Air Force against terrorist camps in Pakistan in 2019, and the large-scale aerial engagement between the Indian Air Force and the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) the following day. Subramaniam includes a chapter on the development of India's nuclear capabilities, since nuclear posturing in the India-Pakistan context has given the US much to worry about in South Asia"-- Provided by publisher.
