Abstract Three publications from Lambda Archives of San Diego provide a deep and powerful history of the LGBT community from the late 20th century into the beginning of the 21st century. While all of the publications originated in and focused on the LGBT community in San Diego, California, their reporting went much farther afield, covering issues of national and international concern. This collection is a wonderful resource for studying the LGBT community, as well as its culture, arts, politics, events, and much more. San Diego, California 1987-1993, weekly, 346 issues Originally titled Bravo! San Diego, this news magazine was published in support of the LGBT community in San Diego. The editors focused on journalism, covering stories that had an impact on the LGBT community locally, nationally, and internationally. Spanning nearly seven years of publication, Bravo! offers a history of LGBT issues, concerns, politics, art, culture, and society. San Diego, California 1979-2006, biweekly, 1,265 issues The editors of Update began publishing with the intention of "taking a fresh look at where we are as a gay people and as an unified gay community." The magazine provided news journalism in a biweekly format, including everything from serious investigative stories to fun features reporting. Although mainly focused on San Diego, Update covered news and stories relevant to the LGBT community from around the nation and world. In publication for more than two decades, Update illustrates a fascinating history of LGBT society. San Diego, California 1988-2010, weekly, 1,137 issues Initially published as the San Diego Gay Times, the weekly eventually became the Gay & Lesbian Times. An early editorial stated the mission of the paper: "to get the facts right; to report the news without making it yourself or somehow 'manufacturing' it; to be responsive to readers' and advertisers' concerns; and in the case of this particular newspaper, to advocate for the lesbian and gay community and to build the sense of self-worth of its members." Reporting on issues of relevance to the LGBT community locally, nationally, and internationally, the San Diego Gay Times and Gay & Lesbian Times became known for hard-hitting investigative journalism.
