Summary Petroleum geologists are frequently confronted with the problem of ascertaining the mode of origin of the sediments encountered in their exploration of oil, and it is necessary to have information about the conditions under which sediments are actually laid down. Recognising this need, the Committee on Sedimentation of the National Research Council prepared in 1935 a symposium on recent marine sediments. As the field was so large, the symposium was restricted to the conditions of formation of marine deposits, and to descriptions of the methods of studying such sediments.
General noteA symposium prepared under the direction of a subcommittee of the Committee on Sedimentation of the Division of Geology and Geography of the National Research Council, Washington, D.C.
