| Summary | Little has previously been written on the nature of the substances from which oil is derived, other than generalities, which are not very helpful in aiding the recognition of source beds of petroleum. The main difficulty in previous considerations of source beds has been the scarcity of information relating to the organic constituents of sediments. The American Petroleum Institute, recognising the need for quantitative data on the organic components of sediments, started a study of source beds in 1926. This report presents the results. |
| General note | Report of investigation supported jointly by the American Petroleum Institute and the Geological Survey of the United States Department of the Interior, from 1931-1941. |
