Abstract | In Zhang Da Zhuang, a small village in Henan, many impoverished farmers went for paid blood donation in the early 1990s. However, due to low hygienic supervision, most of them were found being HIV-infected later. Now, AIDS deaths have spread in this place. Zhang Da Zhuang has become synonymous to the AIDS village. In face of prejudices, the villagers are gradually cut off from the outside world. The AIDS victims of this place live helplessly amidst the loneliness and pain. |
