Abstract	More than 20 million Russians lost their lives in the Great Patriotic War, as it is known by them, and for Russian school students this traumatic period in their country's past plays a key role in the study of history today. This film visits high schools in two Russian cities previously occupied by the Germans - or fascists as they are still described. In Novgorod and Pskov we discover that the Great Patriotic War is as real today as 60 years ago. Pupils visit local forests in search of the remains of hundreds of thousands of soldiers still unaccounted for, and hear from veterans of the epic campaign.
