Variant title | Where next for primary assessment? |
Abstract | One of the first challenges facing the new Secretary of State is to decide how primary pupils are tested in future, and whether to continue with the externally-marked SATs. Krishnan Guru-Murthy takes a closer look at the SATs and the alternatives, and asks a specially selected audience of parents, school staff, governers and other interested parties what they believe is the objective of primary assessment, and which method is the best for both pupils, and for school accountability. The audience will be able to vote on which method they prefer, using the 'worm' technology seen in the recent general election televised debates. A panel of four well known educationalists will represent the four types of assessment 'on trial' in the programme, and will stand up for their method in the face of intense questioning from audience members. |
