Abstract | Dancer, choreographer, and educator Martha Myers recalls the pioneering days of dance in television, when she and Jac Venza created the series A time to dance, a precursor of Dance in America. She discusses her interest in the study of anatomy, kinesiology, and injury prevention for dancers, and notes the current growth of this field, citing as examples points made by Sally Fitt. Speaking from many years of involvement in the American Dance Festival, she traces a little of its history and describes some of its current activities, among them international exchanges of performers, teachers, and choreographers; the black tradition project, which aims to preserve the works of black choreographers; and workshops in a variety of body therapy techniques. |
