Abstract In this opera, based on the original libretto, The Magic Flute (Impempe Yomlingo in original South African language) is interpreted by the black members of the Isango Portobello Company from South Africa, wearing folkloric costumes. The symphonic orchestra got replaced by marimbas, percussions and an African choir. The story is located in a township, where various languages spoken in South Africa are used.
