Description: A relation of Cristóbal de Acuña's journey along the Amazon with the Portuguese general Pedro Teixeira, who was ordered to make a report of the region by the Spanish authorities. The volume includes chapters relating to the geography of the region, its peoples and their religions, Christian missions, and the Portuguese colonial administration. Philip IV of Spain is reported to have been disturbed by this account, and attempted to have its print version suppressed. |
