The volume opens with Lopo Vaz de Sampaio taking control in India in 1526, and refusing to yield to the nominated successor to the governorship of Portuguese India, Pedro Mascarenhas, captain of Malacca. The volume ends in 1539 with the death of Nuno da Cunha on his return to Portugal, and includes maps of the Kingdom of Gujarat and the Kingdom of Bengal.
