Summary The purpose of this thesis is to study the rocks of the Concord Gabbro/Syenite complex. The Concord Gabbro/Syenite complex lies in the Charlotte Belt of North Carolina. Nine drill cores from the southeastern corner of the complex were studied. Fractures and veins in the syenite consist of mainly quartz and calcite. The gabbro fractures and veins are primarily filled with quartz, calcite, and chlorite. The gabbro cores are riddled with graphic granite, fine-grained gabbroic, and coarse-grained gabbroic dikes. None of the dikes that cut the gabbro were found in the syenite. Three fluid species (C02, H20, and a sulfur species) circulated through the gabbro fractures. The maximum depth of oxidation and circulation of groundwater is indicated by the maximum depth of oxidation in the mineralized fissures.
