SeriesInverse and Ill-Posed Problems Ser. 18
Summary Annotation This volume introduces and analyses the wide class of inverse problems related to wave propagation. These arrive in mathematical physics, and especially in geophysics, electrodynamics, acoustics, electromagnetoelasticity and in ecology. The book, in which attention is focused on inverse problems for hyperbolic equations, is divided into two parts. The first part deals with the usual identification problems related to hyperbolic (second-order) differential equations. The second part of the book deals with extending the previous problems to the case of integro-differential equations. Additionally, the final chapter of the book gives some examples of severely ill-posed problems and introduces some simple techniques for solving them.
