Abstract In 1963, Nancy Wilson, accompanied by musical director Jimmy Jones, made "Hollywood--My way", a follow-up to the previous year's "Broadway--My way" (an which was itself followed by the third My way album, "Today--My way", in 1965). In the 12 movie songs on the original album, as well as the five well-chosen additional songs included in this expanded CD edition, Ms. Wilson shows that there are some themes that are inseparable from the films that launched them. Ms. Wilson and Mr. Jones also show that the world of film songs is a level playing field, serious composers like Nicholas Brodsky (I'll never stop loving you) and Dimitri Tiomkin (Wild is the wind) never intended to write pop songs, yet their music competes with the best of the Broadway writers like Jerome Kern and Cole Porter. If this new, expanded edition "Hollywood-My way" makes one point, it's that the genre of movie music is as deep as it is varied, and there are as many different ways to interpret these songs as there are stars in Hollywood.--Condensed from Will Friedwald.
