Variant title |
Binder's spine title: Cooke's voyage |
Abstract |
An account of the voyage under command of Woodes Rogers. It is generally accepted that Daniel Defoe used this account of Alexander Selkirk's years on Juan Fernandes Island for his Robinson Crusoe, as it was the first book containing it. |
Local note | Joyner- Armorial bookplate: "Bibliotheque de I.G. Schorsch." Two letter "X"s and initials next to Cooke's name on the title page. Rear fly-leaf has "Birch" written on it. Plate 8 bound in upside down. |

General note | Head and tailpieces; initials. |
General note | First edition, Howes 733aa. Lacking the 2 pages of advertisements (leaf Gg2) mentioned in Howes. |

General note | Subsequently issued as a two-volume work (ESTC T175690), with the title pages describing it as such. It has been suggested that the present edition was rushed to market as a single volume, and the two-volume edition published later. Many copies of this edition are accompanied by v. 2 of the later edition. |
