Summary Annotation Whilst schools have long had some interest in their external links, especially in the independent sector, where survival depends on it, it is only recently that the issue has moved to the top of the management agenda. The 1988 Education Reform Act has forced schools to become more aware of their external relations, and to take responsibility for their management. Schools must now operate in an environment in which the strength of external relations will detemine the long term success of the institution in attracting pupils and funding. The contributors look in detail at all aspects of managing external relations, from links with local authorities and support services, to liaising with the media, parents and industry and methods of fund raising.
