Abstract "Henri Fayol is one of the most important management theorists of the twentieth century. He worked as a managing director of the Commentary-Fourchambault et Decazeville mining company for thirty years (1888-1918) and wrote the seminal, yet unfinished, Industrial and General Management. Guthrie and Peaucelle present a study of Fayol's management, comparing the theories set out in his book with his hands-on experience and practice. The authors have used the archives of the mining company, along with Fayol's extensive private papers, to reconstruct his day-to-day management as a case study for his own theories as well as highlighting some interesteding inconsistencies."--Back cover.
