Abstract Otto Erich Deutsch's monumental documentary biography of Mozart, first published in English in 1965, presented all the contemporary documents on Mozart then known to scholars, along with the authentic recollections of Mozart written or printed in the years after his death. During the past three decades, more documents have come to light, and the author has himself substantially augmented their number by a methodical search of contemporary research material--newspapers, diaries, memoirs, and books. This supplement presents all the material discovered since 1965, carefully presented with commentary and notes that display the scholarly attention to accuracy, thoroughness, and detail of the original work. To facilitate its use, it is organized on a principle slightly different from Deutsch's in that the strictly biographical documents dealing with Mozart's life and activities and those dealing with the reception of his music are in separate sections.
