Summary Annotation The term "molecular nanostructures" is described in the preface to these February/March 1999 proceedings as implying "the 'bottom-up' (synthetic) approach, as opposed to the 'top-down' (lithography and etching) techniques in semiconductor technology." The study of these structures has evolved into a field that overlaps solid state physics and molecular physics. This conference was organized into seven sections: fullerene materials, endohedral fullerenes, new nanostructured materials, preparation and characterization of carbon nanotubes, properties of carbon nanotubes, electronics of molecular nanostructures, and applications.
