| Summary | Annotation This book is part of a series offering comparative studies of work and family reconciliation policies in different countries. Continuing the examination of the work/life balance and the challenges this poses for parents in the modern world, this particular volume focuses on the issues that effect families in New Zealand, Portugal and Switzerland. As with the previous volumes, differing experiences exist, but the fundamental issues remain the same. An inability to tally the work/life balance has an impact on the general economic developments in society, but a reduction in the birth rates also has obvious implications on the future labour supply. It seems incumbent on policy makers to promote developments that enhance the work/life balance further. This study looks at the options available to the governments of these particular countries, including: tax/benefit and childcare policies; differing employment and workplace practices, and the policy reform options which can reconcile work and family commitments |
