| Biographical note | Gil McKean, a recording company executive, spends his spare time writing fiction and feature articles. A dozen or so of the latter have been published by Esquire. His profile of Ellington, "A Date with the Duke" appeared in Nugget Magazine and he served for a time as the jazz record columnist for Saturday Review. Two of the Esquire features (on Dizzy Gillespie and Django Reinhardt) were included in Ralph Gleason's Putnam anthology "Jam Session." He recently finished a satirical novel on nuclear weapons entitled "A Bomb for Big Daddy." A graduate of Louisiana Polytechnic Institute, he served as a captain in the Signal Corps for four years, including two years in the European Theatre as Custodian of Codes. |
