Summary Man in Search of Meaning is a two-part lecture presented before a live audience in 1984. In the first segment, Frankl describes his perspective on the logotherapy of anxiety problems. He tells of personal contacts with Freud and Adler and contrasts his existential orientation with their theories. Frankl discusses cycles that perpetuate anxiety and outlines his method of paradoxical intention, which harnesses respectful humor to promote change. In Part Two, Frankl goes on to consider the existential vacuum that is composed of boredom (lack of interest) and apathy (lack of initiative): In essence, people have the means to live, but do not have the meaning for which to live. Noogenic neuroses, those that are a result of a lack of meaning, require logotherapy. In Frankl's unique words, "The harvest of our lives is the love that we love; the suffering we surmount with courage and dignity." These engaging lectures are appropriate for psychotherapists of all persuasions and levels of experience. This is an excellent industrial-grade, two-camera video with exceptionally clear audio.
