Understanding music. UNAUTHORIZED
Abstract Corelli's Concerto grosso in D major, op. 6, no. 4, is played on period instruments by the Brandenburg Consort, illustrating how this concerto was based on the distinction between the full string orchestra and a trio of soloists. The complete first movement of Schubert's Octet is performed by Hausmusik, illustrating its basis in the string quartet, and also how Schubert created a great variety of textures and groupings by adding a double bass and three wind instruments to form what amounts to a miniature orchestra.
