Understanding music Understanding music. UNAUTHORIZED
|
Abstract |
Explains how different musical scales require different sharps and flats to work, and how the normal keyboard is designed to accommodate this, starting with the major scale beginning on C. Extracts from Schubert's Du bist die Ruh and Octet illustrate how there is a technical need to compose music that sets keys at a pitch to fit particular voices and instruments. The color and variety of expression that modulation introduces to musical composition is demonstrated. |
