| General note | Concerning a 1779 naval engagement between an American armed vessel and four British vessels. It was determined that the owners of letters of marque vessels were responsible for injuries committed by those vessels on the high seas; that other vessels had no right to profit from captures at sea that they witnessed; and that the Pennsylvania Court of Admiralty and High Court of Errors and Appeals had jurisdiction over such cases. |
