New-York, April 26th, 1736 : Sir; Whereas on the 10th day of March last, immediately upon the death of His Excellency William Cosby, Esq; late governor of this province, the Honourable George Clarke, Esq; one of His Majesty's Council, by and with the advice and consent of some others of the gentlemen of the Council, did take on him the administration of the government, without hearing me in support of my claim thereto.
