B-24 Liberator: Told through eyewitness accounts of B-24 crews, this program examines the role the B-24 played in pulverizing the German war machine from the air. |
| Abstract | Disc 2. P-47: With over 15,000 Republic P-47 Thunderbolts built in World War II, the Allies had a combat record of almost one loss to every five German aircraft destroyed. The "T-Bolt" (or "Jug" for Juggernaut) showed a final total of 3,700 German aircraft shot down in air combat and an additional 3,3000 destroyed n the ground. P-51 Mustang: North American's P-51 "Mustang" reached the peak ofpiston-engine fighter development during World War II. Built as a low-wing single seater with sleek all-metal stressed -skin, the "Mustang" had an incredible combination of speed, range, maneuverability and firepower. Its ability to escort bombers to Berlin and beyond proved to be the death knell for the Lufwaffe.
