Abstract |
Historical drama in which the interactions between supporting players reveal the king's weakness as a ruler. Shakespeare was not enthusiastic about the King, and shows his wickedness and weakness at the same time as raising Faulconbridge, the bastard, from swaggerer to clear-eyed champion of England. The play is also well known for the way Shakespeare humanizes his characters, with scenes that exhibit them under emotional stress. |
