| Abstract | This book serves as a detailed study of the musical and ritualistic life within the Papal Chapel during the Avignon Papacy. The book examines the papal chapel, specifically focusing on the capellani capelle pape (chaplains of the papal chapel), who performed the canonical hours with Gregorian chant. This work, based on his Oxford doctoral thesis, is considered the most thorough investigation of a 14th-century papal musical institution to date. |
