General noteThe original work of Exquemelin, "De americaensche zee-roovers" (Amsterdam, 1678), was translated into Spanish in 1681 and thence by an anonymous translator into English (London, W. Crooke, 1684). Raveneau de Lussan's A journal of a voyage ... was originally written in French.
