| General note | The first version of the opera Fidelio premièred in 20 November 1805 with the overture now known as Leonore no. 2 (op. 72). A revised version of the opera was performed 29 March and 10 April 1806 with Leonore overture no. 3 (op. 72). Leonore overture no. 1 (op. 138) once thought from 1805 is now considered from 1807. The final version of the opera Fidelio premièred 23 May 1814 with an overture in E major. Distinct from the three earlier overtures it bears the title of the opera. |
