General noteOriginally a liberal paper which supported the Volunteer movement, the paper was taken over by Francis Higgins in 1782 and by 1784 was no longer an opposition newspaper but a voice for Dublin Castle. Higgins died in 1802, the newspaper eventually regained its independence.
