| Abstract | This book examines each of the specific characteristics of Stravinsky's genius, tracing the origins of Stravinsky's music, and tries to make us aware of the persistence of a Russian element in its very texture. In the early works this element was clear enough, but the author traces it right through the unhappily named 'neo-classical' works, and into the works of the last period. The author demonstrates the persistent presence, against all apearances, of a Russian vein throughout the whole of Stravinsky's oeuvre. |
