Abstract This book covers the functions and responsibilities of the music editor in the making of a motion picture, whether for television or theatrical release, and in any form where music is used and needed. The author has intended this book to be immediately useful not only for potential music editors but also for composers and arrangers who are interested in motion-picture music. Those involved in motion-picture production will find the work of immense interest as they must all interact with music editors and composers. A composer writes the music for a film but actually has very little, if anything, to do with incorporating the music into the production. This book fully describes the music editor's responsibilities--from assignment to a particular motion picture until after the final dubbing. Charts, graphs, seven important Appendices and a Glossary provide a complete account of the interesting and fulfilling world of music editing.

Biographical note"Milton Lustig began his career in 1936 with the Max Fleischer Studios in the position of a movie editor (although the official title had probably not been coined at the time) for animated cartoons. After serving with the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II as a music editor on training films, he remained with them in a civilian capacity as both a music editor and composer for training and documentary films until 1954 when he was engaged by MGM and subsequently 20th Century Fox. From 1956 to 1960 Mr. Lustig was head of music editing for Ziv Television Studios, which at that time were the largest producers of films for television. Mr. Lustig currently free lances in feature films and television as a music editor, composer, arranger and pianist. He is a member of BMI and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. A list of his more recent and better known theatrical features include: Heaven Can Wait; Audrey Rose; The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training; Lipstick ; Oliver's Story; First Love; Bloodline."--Dust jacket.
