| Abstract | Curt Sachs's "Real-Lexikon der Musikinstrumente" has long been the standard reference work for information on musical instruments of the world. Covering instruments of the past and present and from even corner of the globe, it is a book whose scope and usefulness for the music scholar have never been rivaled. This is the first and only edition to include the author's own annotations (throughout his lifetime, Sachs continued to correct his personal copy of the book and write supplementary material on instruments not in the original edition). Every emendation and new entry in this edition has been personally approved by Mrs. Irene Sachs, the author's widow. 600 corrections have been incorporated into the body of the book while the 500 or so additional entries have been grouped together alphabetically at the end. This new edition is thus, in effect, Sachs's final version of his great work. |
