Abstract This was a period when formality was loosening and the Gibson Girl was the rage. The first of the major couture houses were established and Japanese influence belatedly hit the fashion world. Fashions included hobble skirts, tailored suits, raised hems and bobbed hair, but World War I would soon bring an end to this world of glitter and elegance.
