Summary Building and developing upon the research of earlier historians and by performing original research, it is possible to weave a new synthesis of Scots-Irish history that moves beyond the partisanship of the past towards a more complete understanding of this important American ethnic group. Their Scottish origins, Irish experiences, and American dreams are all highways that must be traveled in order to understand who the Celts and the Scottish Lowlanders were, how the Ulster Scots changed Ireland and how Ireland shaped them in turn, and how and why they emigrated to America and became the Scots-Irish.
