| Summary | The purpose of this thesis is to make an examination of the military career of the fifth century B.C. Athenian leader Pericles and to make a judgement as to whether he was a successful military leader. The hypothesis is that Pericles was cautious and conservative as a military leader. The approach used is to examine primary sources on the life and career of Pericles. These include Thucydides, Plutarch and Diodorus Siculus. The main finding, through analysis of the sources, is that Pericles was a successful, if cautious military leader. |
