"Daniel McClure's book tracks the interaction between culture and economics during the transition from Keynesianism in the mid-1960s to the arrival of neoliberalism at the dawn of the 1980s. During those years, civil rights reforms and the opening of the workplace to people of color and women provoked a sharp backlash. McClure's story unfolds through the examination of various confrontations erupting in popular media, including film, television, music, and the business press. From the 1965 debate between William F.
